Our soft tissue service covers all surgical conditions of the body excluding the nervous and musculoskeletal systems, including ENT, cardiothoracic, hepatic, gastrointestinal, urogenital, skin reconstructive, and oncological surgeries.

We provide critical care for complex cases, supported by purpose-built theatres, advanced imaging, a multidisciplinary team, and 24/7 nursing care.

Key Procedures

  • Caused by stenotic nares, elongated soft palate, aberrant turbinates, and laryngeal collapse.
  • Signs: snorting/snoring, exercise intolerance, regurgitation, vomiting, heat intolerance, cyanosis, collapse.
  • Indicated for oral tumours in dogs and cats.
  • Diagnostics: FNA, biopsy, CT scan, regional lymph node assessment.
  • Post-op care: hospitalisation, feeding tubes if needed, soft diet, restricted activity, rechecks at 4–10 days, monthly tumour surveillance where indicated.
  • Prognosis: good quality of life for dogs; in cats, early post-op management can improve survival.
  • Removal of the ear canal and tympanic bulla for chronic or failed otitis cases.
  • Complications: temporary facial nerve paralysis, vestibular syndrome, bleeding, wound healing issues, Horner’s syndrome.
  • Most dogs experience significant improvement in quality of life post-surgery.
  • Congenital or acquired vascular anomalies bypassing the liver.
  • Diagnostics: advanced imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI) and lab tests.
  • Treatment: gradual surgical closure with post-op monitoring and medical management.
  • Prognosis: congenital cases often normalise; acquired cases may require lifelong monitoring.
  • Most common in neutered female dogs; sometimes associated with ectopic ureters.
  • Investigation: lab tests, imaging, cystoscopy.
  • Treatment: medical therapy or surgery (urethropexy, colposuspension, collagen injections, ectopic ureter repair).
  • Expected outcomes: 50–60% fully continent, 30–40% improved, 10–20% no benefit.
  • Most common in sublingual glands of young dogs.
  • Diagnostics: palpation, aspiration, CT scan.
  • Treatment: surgical removal of mandibular and sublingual glands.
  • Prognosis: excellent if all affected tissue is removed.
  • Weakening of the pelvic diaphragm, mainly in male dogs.
  • Diagnostics: rectal exam, imaging, urine/blood tests.
  • Treatment: early surgical repair, sometimes requiring muscle transposition or mesh.
  • Prognosis: >90% resolution for uncomplicated cases; complications possible in a minority.

Georgina brings years of experience managing both routine and complex surgical cases in tier three referral and first-opinion hospitals. She is always happy to advise referring vets on case management via phone or email.

Ginnie Jones
BVSc PgC(SAS) MRCVS
RCVS Recognised Certificate Holder in Small Animal Surgery

Ginnie graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2012 with a Veterinary degree and an extra in Conservation Medicine. She achieved her certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2018 and has since applied her skills to develop her passion for surgery.

Ginnie recently returned to the UK after three years in New Zealand, where she worked in a busy small animal hospital on the sunny North Island. She now works across both first-opinion and referral surgical teams, so you may see her if your pet requires surgery.
