Radiograph Reporting

Eden Veterinary Referrals offers a Digital Radiograph Reporting Service to support local veterinary practices in the management of orthopaedic cases.

Our service provides expert interpretation of high-quality digital radiographs by an orthopaedic surgeon, along with follow-up advice to guide case management. This is a FREE service designed to help general practice vets provide the highest standard of care to their patients.

Digital Radiograph Guidelines

When submitting radiographs for reporting, please provide the following:

  • Patient summary: Include the patient’s condition, relevant clinical examination findings, and any pertinent history in the body of your email.
  • Radiographs: Up to eight images relevant to the condition. Attempt to localise the lesion prior to imaging and ensure correct patient positioning. Poorly positioned radiographs will be returned without interpretation.
  • Patient and practice details: Pet’s name, owner’s surname, practice name, veterinarian’s name, and contact number.
  • File format: Radiographs should be in DICOM or high-resolution JPEG. Files larger than 12MB should be sent via WeTransfer or Dropbox.

Survey radiograph recommendations (when localisation is not possible)

  • Pelvic limbs: Lateral LS spine (centred on L7), VD pelvis (femurs extended and parallel), left and right lateral crus including stifle and tarsus, left and right caudocranial tarsus and pes. Additional views: VD pelvis (abducted/frog-leg), left and right caudocranial stifle and crus.
  • Thoracic limbs: Lateral left and right shoulder, lateral flexed and craniocaudal elbow, AP left and right carpus and manus. Additional views: left and right caudocranial shoulder, left and right lateral carpus and manus, left and right lateral extended elbow.

Important: Orthogonal views are always preferred. Reporting may be delayed by poor-quality images; please aim to submit the highest quality radiographs initially. We do not interpret MRI or CT images.
