Outpatient IDST Service

At Eden Veterinary Referrals, we aim to provide referring veterinary surgeons with access to advanced diagnostic services. Our Outpatient Intradermal Skin Test (IDST) service is designed to support dermatology case management while maintaining convenience for primary care practices.

We offer structured referral packages to ensure a straightforward process. For advice on which package best suits a patient, our referral team is available to provide guidance.

Service Overview

Outpatient IDST is a specialist diagnostic service allowing primary care veterinarians to access allergy skin testing without the need for a full referral. The service includes sedation, test administration, interpretation, and reporting, with results emailed to the referring veterinary surgeon to facilitate timely treatment planning.

IDST remains the gold-standard diagnostic tool used by veterinary dermatologists to identify environmental allergens contributing to allergic disease. It is important to note that IDST does not provide a diagnosis of allergy; rather, it identifies relevant allergens to guide Allergen-Specific Immunotherapy (ASIT).

35 common environmental allergens (full list available on request)

To guide formulation of individualized ASIT for each patient

The referring veterinary surgeon retains responsibility for ordering ASIT and managing the overall allergy treatment plan

Complementary diagnostic testing, such as Pax serology, may be performed either concurrently with IDST under sedation or separately at the referring practice.
